I have seen several brands of cull- color marking systems for tourneys in catologs and most seem to be a bit hard on fish if your going to try and keep them in the live well all day.
Any ideas as to a good dependable harmless system for large walleye that wont bother them? |

Jim, Luckie had some in his tackle one time that he had made that were simply some small (1"-1 1/2") alligator clips with a short (2") piece of colored electrical wire crimped or soldered to the end. Just find a few different colors of wire and your set up. He just clipped them to the dorsal fin and they stayed on just fine by his account and the fish didn't seem to notice. No holes punched in the fishes mouth nor any bulky lip clip to stress the fish. Just a thought...RJ

Most of the ones I have seen are a clip system that clip onto the lip. Then they have a line and a float. You grab the float and the fish you want to toss.
Gator clips seem pretty easy too. I have a clip system and try to clip the fins but they rub off sometimes and then I end up weighing all the fish anyway. Having a shower curtain hook with diffrent color tags works nice too. ChadM |

I have found the lip clip and float extremely tough on walleye. I wouldn't recommend them. These are even tough for smallmouth. The 'gator clip sounds much better.
The loss of one fish in the livewell is a killer at tourney time. Greg |

Try a baby pin with different color tops. pin them through the dorsal fin near the base. The work well. You can see them easily for removal and they dont damage the fish at all. Never had one fall off either.

Cabela's just put this system up for sale. Comes with a scale and seven markers. Looks like the clip ends are rubber coated.
Take the guesswork out of culling fish, whether you're competing in a tournament or just trying to bring home the heaviest limit possible. Each fish's weight is automatically stored in the unit's memory and a number is assigned to the fish. Seven numbered floats are included for attaching to each fish in the order you catch it. When you exceed the daily limit, the display automatically shows the number of the float attached to the fish to be released. After releasing the smaller fish, you place its numbered float on the bigger fish. Measures in pounds or kilograms. Weighs fish up to 25 pounds and will store the weight of up to 99 fish in the memory. Stored fish are displayed numerically. Shows total weight of all fish in livewell. A water-tight electronic housing. Fish-friendly gripSocks™ safely grip fish by the lower jaw. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...209&hasJS=true Albe |
