Default Rattles or not

What's the consensus out there on these rattle cranks and jigging spoons. Do they catch more fish??

Back in the day I use to place 2 steel bb's on the line above the lure when jigging spoons in the fall. Never really noticed a difference but that was in clear water. I would presume that there better in stained or dark water.

What other tricks do you guys use to make more noise?

sure attracts buyers at the bait shop. imo I don;t think anything beats a worm/minnie on a hook.

Never been a big fan of rattles. I've had good luck in dark/dirty water with bladebaits. Lots of vibration & flash. Also like lures with spinners. Either rigs or jigs like thumper or prop types. Bigger & brighter (contrasting)colors seems to get their attention, too, no matter what type lure.

walleye wart, rattles do have a place and time that can increase your catch. stained/dirty water, open water. times you need to draw them in from a distance. but they can also spook fish too. you just need to experiment.

Good fishing

So it is true that rattles do work under some circumstances. Those circumstances are based on active fish moods. By and large, noise is scarry. If you have a neutral or negative fish mood, you are only making things worse by using rattles. Subtle noise on the other hand can attract attention/peak curiosity/possibly cause a reaction bite. Theres' a gray line to cross or not to cross here. I don't use them.

Like most baits sold, there are times when, and places where they will do great.
Some of my favorite cranks have rattles.

Hooks and split rings rattle. The majority of the cranks I use have rattles.

Ice fishing with pimples, raps & rattling snakies on erie - occasionally the rattling snakies are the winner.

My gripe with the rattling spoons I'm familar with is the rattling sounds are not always consistent between otherwise identical baits. I haven't checked as many cranks but have noticed some inconsistencies there too.

There is a time and place for everything but I had to choose between cranks with rattles or without, I'd pick with.

Good Luck,
SS
