Default looking for a place to fish on Erie

All,
I am moving from Missouri to North Carolina this June, and I want to take my father inlaw to lake Erie to fish for Small mouths and Walleye. Where would the best place to go? I was thinking some where around Sanddusky near Cedar point. I have only fished Erie near Monroe Michigan when I was a kid. Just looking for some ideas, that are not a 1000 miles from Tennesse where my inlaws live. I love Walleye, but my father inlaw loves small mouths. We went to Little Bay De Noc 2 years ago so he could catch a 5 pound smallie, but could only manage small ones. I would like to be somewhere we could fish for both species. Any help would be appericated. Thanks

Eastern Lake Erie has a tremendous smallmouth fishery in May/June.
And walleye heats up starting in June....

Ruggles Reef between Vermillion and Huron would be a good bet.

The islands also have stupendous smallie fishing, but I'm not sure when the best bite happens.

Times 2 nailed it. Huge spring smallies. The NY state record and Pa record were taken on the east basin like 15-20 miles apart 8.5# and 9# respectivly. Walleye kick in in June and fishing pressure on the east basin is minimal.

Come fish with me!

I'd learn hard towards the east end of the lake for a 6 lb bass & numbers though there are good numbers of very nice fish around Huron/Vermillion & also Pelee. Should be some tournament results out there for the islands/sandusky bay/huron/vermillion (all within reach for Sandusky Tournaments) to see what the 6 lb potential is for that area.

For numbers of good eye's I'd lean towards Huron - Lorain at that time. Serious Trophy hunting - maybe 12 bites a day or nite I'd look anywhere from Huron east.

If your pulling a boat & want to fish everyday both the island's area and Presque Isle in Pa deserve a look. Worst case you can fish Sandusky Bay or ferry over to S. Bass or Kelly's for the day. Presque Is is a huge bay -plenty of info with a net search.
