booking my first guided hunt, any tips

My brothers and I booked our first guided elk hunt in SW Colorado for Sept 2005. We have a friend going along who has done this many times, but I'm looking for advice on preparing, as in what to take along, what to expect, anything that you experienced hunters would think is relative.
