Default Southern Iowa quail population.

Been a long time since I have been down there this time of year, but I need to be in Des Moines for Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, with Friday and Sat open during the day. I was wondering if I should bring down the new shorthair, and the lab and give it a try. I have a couple trips to South Dakota under my belt, so pheasants wouldnt be that important, unless they were the only game in town. Is there a chance to raise a covey or two somewhere southwest of Des Moines? Im willing to travel to get to quail country.

I do realize that it is also opening season on deer in Iowa on Saturday, but still want to get out and look around.

Any suggestions? State land?

I wouldn't be hunting birds on opening day of deer season. Unless you were hunting very , very, private land.

Not worth the risk.
