I released live birds for my pup for the first time last week. She has held points on my wifes cat's and stuff like that, but when she hit those live birds the points were beautiful and staunch. I was truly amazed at the instinct that took over when there was a real bird involved. I have been working with her on a check chord for many evening without ever needing gloves. From now on, gloves will be on when there is a bird involved.
I can't believe I considered letting somebody steal this enjoyment from me! Thanks to all of you who suggested I do this myself. "Friends don't let friends fish for trout!" |

The best is yet to come... I'd say that is true up to year 3-4. At that point you love them so much every bird is proud moment.

Wheels,
Sounds like your having a GOOD time with your dog! I just started training again. I gave them Dawgs a 3 1/2 week break. Now it's back to work. didn't make it to Texas to finish off the quail season,so they are ready to go.They are starting to pick up some weight. Good luck on your training program! Keep us posted |
