Guys, This post is not meant at anyone specific, its just that I noticed a lot of folks having problems with electronics, including GPS, Fish Finder and Trolling Motors.
I've fished regular for the past 25 years and used many different brands of electronics. I never once had a problem with Hummingbird, Lowrance, MinnKota or Motorguide. I've never once had problems with a motor. I do follow these guidelines: 1) If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I don't know and don't care what my software level is. If the unit is working, it's the right level of software. 2) I treat my GPS, Fish finders and trolling motors for what they are. A sensitive piece of electronic equipment. NEVER stored out of doors, NEVER towed in the boat, and never left in the rain. I remove my GPS and fish finders and place them in a padded case for transport. 3) I follow the owners manual for my motor to the "t". Brand, type and timing on all oil/plug changes. A little preventive M/A goes a long way. So, chime in here guys is it that: a) I'm a lucky duck? b) Care, maintenance and treatment matters a lot when it comes to electronics and motors. c) Some guys are unlucky ducks? d) These companies are producing a lot of faulty stuff. Or a combination of the above? Happin hookin! JR Last edited by Wall-i-Lama; 08-21-2008 at 03:41 PM. Reason: spelling |
