Default waypoint transfer between handheld and boat unit...

Hello.

I just bought my first GPS capable boat depthfinder. For years I have used a handheld garmin 76 for marking waypoints. How can I move all of my old way points over to the new boat GPS ?

Thanks.

If it is just a Garmin GPS 76, there is no way to transfer data. If it is one of the GPSMAP 76's then it is possible to download them to a program(you have to get it from Garmin) and then transfer it to another "Garmin" unit. If you are trying to transfer it to anything other than a Garmin then it is not possible.

there are programs that can convert Garmin data to other formats that can be used in Lowrance or Humminbird, for example.

I use ExpertGPS for this task. There is also a free version, EasyGPS

great program

Default Navionics HM Explorer to change waypoints

There is a new Navionics DVD PC product out now that will transfer waypoints and routes between Garmin, Magellan, Lowrance, H-Bird, Raymarine...just about any plotter.

It is called HotMaps Explorer http://www.navionics.com/HMExplorerFeatures.asp

It is an inexpensive way ($20) to see Navionics lakes and near shore Great Lakes on your PC but it also allows you to upload and download waypoint files, route files and track files in just about any GPS's file format and then load them back on a card or to the unit in the new file format.

For $20 bucks, it will sve you both money and time, as well as gas.

Available now at your favorite retailer and if they don't have it, PM me here and I'll find a palce for you to get it.

I'll have it running at the Huron WC Get Together Friday night, too!

Larry
