Looking to purchase a new reel. Anyone using the Revo Toro 60? Using it mainly for bucktails. Also looking at the Shimano Curado 300.
Thanks in advance |

The Shimano Curado is the more proven reel having been out in the market for a few years, and to my knowledge is very durable. The Revo Toro is pretty new with only a few testers playing with it last year, so this will be its first year out in the real world. I have seen one up close and they look nice, seem to have a good drag (24 lb), nice big handle and a few choices. Only time will tell how it does, but I liked what I have seen of it.

I have not played with the Toro, but I have owned the top of the line Revo. I was unimpressed completely. The reel just had NO consistency in casting/braking. It was all over the place. 10 cast would be perfect and then the 11th would act like you had just oiled the brakes or they didn't work at all.
Abu needs to go back to the drawing board on the guts of the Revo's in my opinion. I never owned a spinning reel until 1999, I started with baitcasters when NO brakes existed on them, so I have a little time playing with baitcasters over the years. The Revo is one I'd avoid at this point. DR |

DR[/QUOTE] I don't have the Toro. But I have the Revo. And have NO problem. And I am thinking of getting an other one.

Maybe I purchased a "bad" one? But from what I have heard form other anglers, it's a common occurrence with the braking on the Revo, it being all over the board.

I have the Revo S, two of them. I am not sure how the more expensive models are set up, but on mine, you remove the side cover and there are the slide weights in there that can be adjusted.
I use my Revo's for trolling, and love them. However, I have never even tried to cast one of them. Goldman |

got one for my significant other and a lighter action bucktail road, the package felt so good I got another reel and a little heavier rod for myself. Prior to this I have used 6500's some going back to the late 80s. The only problem I have had with any is stepping on a handle and bending it.
The revo toro is very comfortable and I found it caste very well, decidely further than the 6500's. I run em with the brakes pretty much turned off and use the ol thumb brake instead. Found the reel very controlable and so far very durable and well made. The size and the thumb bar give my musky fishing almost bass fishing comfort. The drag is superb. don't know if this helps but I looked at price and value and was very happy. Dean |

If you are comfortable fishing with a baitcasting reel you should love the Revo Toro! It's all in the set up and adjustment, just like any other reel. If you have it set up and adjusted for big inline spinners and switch to a bait that catches air on a cast such as a spoon and it's lighter than the inline you were throwing, your gonna have problems. But, it you make the necessary adjustments when you switch baits, you'll have a great casting reel that you'll fall in love with. I just got back from a week on LOW fishing for pike and got to give the Toro a good workout. The drag worked flawlessly and I was out casting my buddy using another brand of reel (close to what you mentioned) and I was using heavier line!
Set up correctly and experience throwing a baitcaster you'll have not problems with the Revo Toro! I'm ordering two more for a return trip in August to chase nothing but muskies! |
