I see frequent posts on the use of the HSR9000 rod for lindy or live bait fishing.
I think - personally - that this rod in either the IMX or GLX version, is a bit on the stiff side and is a bit overpowering for this application most of the time. Conversely, in the gl2 or gl3 - softer versions - I think that this rod is excellent for the purpose. The HSR9000 was designed for Hot Shot Plug fishing in the pacific northwest where it is used to pull plugs in the rivers of the northwest for big fish. For this application, it is perfect. Also, the HSR9000 for a trolling rod to pull cranks is also a wonderful rod. If you haven't tried it for this application, give it a go. Perhaps the best use here in the midwest for this rod in the IMX and GLX version is for river fishing when I am throwing jigs - heavier than 1/8th oz - say 1/4 oz on up for fish in the current. The 7'6" length gives an extra reach for pitching those jigs to corners and cracks when working wing dams and flats. Then, the use of a braid or non stretch line with this rig gives instant hook sets for the agressive fish commonly found in the river system. ---------- Also, if I am back on the lake and am working deeper water or on windy days when I need heavy jig - greater than 1/4 oz. this rod also works very well as a jigging rod. Some folks might think it too long for jig fishing, but for certain applications, it is really the rod of choice. So, if you are working a rock pile on your favorite lake and need to have the extra casting distance and are working heavier jigs, you might give this rod a try. Take off the lindy rig, tie on a jig and give it a go. Take care REW |
