Hey,
I had the chance to use the new Navionics update with my HDS10 this weekend. It's definitely pretty cool but I do have some issues with it that hopefully are easily resolved. When you switch the map orientation to "Heading Up", the map will rotate as you move about to follow your heading. I have always used this setting, always worked good on my LCX-104c, LCX-27c, and even on my last finder... the Humminbird 1197c. With this new HDS update, here are my issues... The spot soundings and waypoint icons/names do not stay upright as the map rotates, they just rotate with the map so I am constantly looking at upside down letters and numbers... VERY annoying. This is the first mapping unit I have owned that has this problem. Here are some Pics to let you see what I am talking about. Both spot sounding and waypoints are upside down... http://www.fishminaki.com/images/lowrance/hds/shot1.jpg Now sideways as I pan the map in 3D... http://www.fishminaki.com/images/lowrance/hds/shot2.jpg Now sideways in 2D as my boat sits in my garage.... good reception from the internal antenna btw! http://www.fishminaki.com/images/lowrance/hds/shot3.jpg Is there some hidden setting that I am missing that will fix this issue? I am currently using a Navionics Gold Chart (Great Lakes & Maritimes) Thanks, JP |

I also am interested in this. I like this setting also, but haven't used it that way. That would be real annoying for sure to have the map and icons upside down.
Don't want to hijack, but is there a way to get the HDS 10 to auto set the limits on the depthfinder side? It has an auto and depth setting (like Auto40) that sets the bottom depth to 40 feet, but doesn't reset the bottom to say 20 feet when you get into 10-15 feet of water. The 104 did this and I liked using the whole screen height for depth readings. |

Anyone notice this with their HDS units?

Yes! I left a message and a photo on a Navionics website blog.
If I get an answer I will post it here. |

I was in contact wth Lowrance. Sent them a couple of pictures
(even one of yours). They were not aware of the problem but are now. I'm sure it will be resolved soon. Bill, I did receive a response from engineering a few minutes ago and they are currently looking into the problem. The goal is to have a solution made available in the next major release. I know that your next question is the same as mine was, and they are not able to give me a definite date on when that will be. Because of the nature of software it could be within the next couple of weeks, or if there are unforeseen delays it could be longer. You are more than welcome to email me periodically to check on the status and I will let you know what I can. Greg Hunter http://webmail.aol.com/42951/aol/en-...Inbox&partId=4 Customer Service/Technical Support Specialist GPS Team Lead Have had dealings with Greg before on other software matters. I'm sure he will stay on top of this. Also taked with Navionics. They seem to think it is a Lowrance issue even though Navionics developed the software. But it is in their best interest to get this solved also. Don't think having to read charts up side down could be good for their business. I for one will hold off on a platinum plus card until this problem is fixed. |

The GPS plotter occasionally gets "stuck" and won't refresh the screen. No message saying 'Lost Connection' or anything. I usually discover this after I'm already 100ft passed my waypoint. In general, the GPS tracking on this unit sucks and is much more herky-jerky compared to my LCX-15. I have tried switching WAAS on/off to no avail. I am running the May 15 update. Anything else I can try?

Are you using the internal GPS or the external LGX-4000?

Good Job VaGuy!
Think I should still contact Lowrance on this matter as well? I hope they resolve this soon cause upside down maps and waypoints are silly when no other unit does this. Other then that, I love this unit and I believe it has HUGE potential as Lowrance continues to tweak it with software releases. I also own a Humminbird 1197c and I have updated it 3 times since I purchased it and it is now a MUCH better working product then it was at the beginning of last year. JP |

problem and add other improvements. I told them I was representing others concerns besides my own, but it would hurt not to send an email. You should get the same basic reply I did. greg.hunter@navico.com. |
