Default Does Anyone Know??

Does anyone know if the LMS522c iGPS can be networked with a Global Map 3500c . I guess my question is since one unit the GM3500c uses the external antenna and the 522c has the internal will they work together. also what do you think about the price of $564.00 for a new unit.

Yes, you can network a 522 and a GM3500 together.

What are you getting for $564, just one of those units? I'd say a better deal is the new HDS-5, we have it for $630 and there's a $50 rebate so that gets you to $580. And the HDS-5 will network with either of both of the units you asked about too.

Default I wasn't sure if...

I wasn't sure if I wanted to go with the new HDS units, mostly because I feared that I would want to replace the units at the back of the boat as well then. In fact if I could find the transducer to the Bottomline Tournament Master HR I wouldn't replace it at all. I just returned from a week of fishing at Lake Winnipesaukee and it turned out to be an expensive trip. One broken St. Croix Legend Elite rod and a sliced transducer cable. But getting back to the HDS 5, I was lead to believe that it did not come with a transducer for the trolling motor. Is that correct? If that is the case now I have to spring for a new transducer and all the T connectors as well as the blue to red connectors. I unfortunately at this time can not afford such a luxury, especially after paying the bills on the recent refurbish job on my boat. I do have your web page saved to my favorites and will keep you in mind. Thank you very much for your info, I didn't realize that the new units would be compatible with the 3500c. This is good to know. Thanks

Whats wrong with repairing your transducer cable? I have a transducer cable I repaired 4 years ago and it still works fine. All it took was some solder, some heat shrink tubing from Radio Shack and I was back in business. Just as long as you have enough cable to work with I see no problem fixing it yourself, and---you will have your favorite depth finder to use again. Just a thought...

The HDS w/ transducer comes with a skimmer transducer, but there are a couple options if you want to use it on a trolling motor. One option is to get the HDS w/o transducer (which is $50 cheaper than w/ transducer) and order the puck transducer for the trolling motor, another option is to get the skimmer transducer and an adapter bracket to mount it to a trolling motor -- the bracket is about $20 and is what I use on my boat, it works great.

If you have an existing network the HDS will plug right into it, although if it's a blue connector network you'll need 1 adapter cable which is about $25. If you don't have the network and are going to add or expand it, the cost would be pretty much the same whether you go with an HDS or LMS unit.

Hope that helps. let me know if you have any other questions.

Default Thank You

hondo and Wall@y@ thank you for taking the time and giving me your input. I will have to look again hard at the HDS idea. I did try to fix the cable. I didn't use solder because I didn't have any at the time. The hardest thing was the bare silver wires. Re-connecting the colored ones was a no brainer. I had to trace back the best I could to determine which bare end went with the other bare end. I guess I have nothing to lose and try solder and do it again. Thanks again.
