Okay, there's been lots of tire horror stories, all different brands, it seems to me 90% of them have been radial tires. Who has a horror story about a bias ply trailer tire that failed when it appeared to be in good condition? Not interested in stories about dryrotted or bald ones.
I've run the infamous Carlisle tire, but bias ply versus radial, and never had a problem. Ran other numerous bias plys that were standard equipment on the trailers, never had a problem with them either. Getting ready to change out my tires now, and intend to mount my Loadstar bias ply spare on the trailer and have purchased a second one for the other side. I could still return it and buy a pair by a different manufacturer, But they all seem to be made in China. I figure if I stick with bias ply, I should be alright. I think my trailer is rated for 2700#'s. but the tires only allow about 2200#'s. My boat loaded is only runs about 1600#'s, with maybe a couple hundred more if on a long distance trip. What d'ya think? By the way, I normally travel 65 MPH or less. |

Shell, I agree with you. I have run Carlisle Bias-Ply on my trailer for 6 years, no problems. I am going to take REW's advice though and buy a new set next Spring. I was considering radials but why mess with what seems to work. JJ

Shellback
I bought a pair of Goodyear marathons size 207 75 x 14 a couple weeks ago and they have made in the USA molded in on the side wall. The place I bought them from was surprised and said maybe this size is still made in USA or the warehouse still had some left, however he has seen the larger sizes molded made In China
