I have a 2000 135 hp optimax. I have recently been having problems with the motor bogging down when getting up on plane. I start up the engine let it warm up and then when I put the hammer down to get on plane it will start to plane and then it start bogging down. If I let off the throttle and then try to slowly accelerate and get on plane it is usually fine. But sometimes when that happens it shuts off and won't start up right away. Have to let it sit for about 5-10 minutes and then it is okay.
Had my mechanic put it on his computer and it registered a #6 INJECTOR Fault. He said he is going to do some research to find out what it could be. The computer he has only tells him the fault and doesn't tell him exactly what the problem is. So my understanding is that it may or may not be the #6 INJECTOR but has something to do with it. Wondering if anybody has had this problem and if so how did they solve it? Thanks for any incite. |

.....which can be changed out if needed. But with the complex fuel feed system on the Opti it could be any one of several other things that are showing up on that particular injector because it just happens to be running the leanest of all in the motor due to factory tolerances. The motor really should be checked out by a Merc Certified Mechanic with the factory diagnostics equipment. Or, if you feel lucky, just change the injector and see how it runs.

I would first check fuel lines and bulb for air leaks. Have you changed or checked the on board water seperator and fuel filter? It has a water sensor in it which will limit RPM`s or cause a non start. With the Opti`s it could be a fuel rail issue or air rail issue. If the above dosen`t help the situtaion I would get it to a good dealer pronto. If it is running lean could burn up a cylinder real quick.
GOOD LUCK |
