Default Lake Kabetogoma

Hello: Thinking about a trip to Kaby in early June for Walleye. Just wanted some input on the fishing, where to go, is it a good time to go there. Never been there before. Other suggestions where to go besides Canada with all the border hassles. Thank You. Outdoorsron. GO HAWKS

I go every year. Fishing can be really, really variable. Some years, in a week the 6 of us will easily break the 200-300 fish mark, other years it is pulling teeth to get one single fish fry in a week - even with supplimenting with lots of northern! Weather can be all over the place - hot and sunny, to very very cold rain.
It has a slot limit that has almost worked too well. Lots of "too bigs" to throw back. Nice problem to have....
A very high population of walleye, but this is not Canadian fishing - you likely will have to work to find your fish. Overall, I like it much better than Mille Lacs.
By the last week of June, you get into the mayfly hatch, which makes fishing a huge challenge.
Very rocky lake - watch your prop. But, all the rock hazards are clearly marked with bouys, so navigation is pretty straightforward.
Too many Iowegians on the lake, but at least they are polite.....

I don't fish Kab very much, but in early June you are likely to find the fish in transition from shoreline structure to mid-lake structure. Shoreline points near deep water and the first set of offshore reefs are likely to be the best spots at that time of year. Since the fish will be in transition they are also likely to be a bit scattered.

If you go, consider getting a 2009 LakeMaster card, either the MN version or the Woods Rainy version, to get high def maps for Kab.

Default Kabetogoma in September

Heading to Lake Kabetogoma in mid-September. Seeking general information about the lake, water tint, etc. Have been to Canada several years but have had to take a pass on fishing trips the last few years and unable to make it back to Canada this year. Wanting to maximize this trip.
