I got this in a e-mail from Lowrance, didn't Lowrance come out with down scan first?
I have a good buddy that works for a small sporting good chain in MI, he went to the I-Cast show and got to see the LSS-1 in action out on a boat, he asked the Lowrance guy how much it would be going for they told him $400.00. When they got them in the store that he works at $699.00, when he talked to the Lowrance guy next time he asked whats with the price, well snice there so many people intrustes in the LSS-1 that why it not $400.00 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 27, 2010 Gordon Sprouse Navico 918-438-8615 gordon.sprouse@navico.com LOWRANCE AFFIRMS CONTINUED COMMITMENT FOR DISTRIBUTION AND SUPPORT OF STRUCTURESCAN™ SONAR IMAGING TECHNOLOGY Side-scanning and DownScan Imaging™ software and module add-on solution for HDS displays offers anglers and boaters a unique full-picture view of the underwater world. Tulsa, Okla. – Lowrance, a world-leading brand in marine electronics since 1957 and GPS navigational systems since 1992, re-affirmed today that the LSS-1 StructureScan™ sonar imaging module option – compatible with HDS fishfinder/chartplotter multifunction displays – will continue to be sold, distributed and fully supported worldwide. The announcement is a direct response to today’s patent infringement lawsuit filed against Navico, Inc., by Johnson Outdoors. Lowrance publicly announced the 2009 availability of LSS-1 StructureScan™ sonar imaging on February 20, 2009, at the Bassmaster® Classic Expo, held in Shreveport, La. Additional details – including the DownScan Imaging™ feature of StructureScan™ sonar imaging for Lowrance HDS displays – were revealed publicly on July 15, 2009, at the International Convention of Sportfishing Trades (ICAST), held in Orlando, Fla. Following the on-time shipment of LSS-1 StructureScan™ sonar imaging in November 2009, excitement of LSS-1 StructureScan™ sonar imaging continues to grow as media and dealer demonstrations at marine-industry events have revealed the unique “full picture” view and other unique features that this add-on module provides for owners of Lowrance HDS multifunction displays. The LSS-1 StructureScan™ sonar imaging is based on Navico’s known and reliable sonar technology, yet it also features additional new technology not available from others, in a unique add-on module configuration. “We are confident,” said Louis Chemi, COO for Navico Americas, “in the uniqueness and value of Lowrance LSS-1 StructureScan™ sonar imaging. We also wish to assure our customers that the worldwide sale and distribution of StructureScan™ sonar imaging will absolutely continue as planned with full Lowrance support for years to come. Navico will vigorously defend the recent legal proceedings initiated by Johnson Outdoors.” For more information on Lowrance StructureScan™ sonar imaging, Lowrance HDS multifunction displays, or the entire Lowrance line of marine electronics, please visit www.lowrance.com. -30- About Lowrance: The Lowrance® brand is wholly owned by Navico, Inc., a privately held, international marine electronics company. Yea, it's probably a good idea to get enough to pay the attorney for an hour from each unit sold...

Navico is hands down the victor in this litigation. With their product reliability and customer service record, they'll never get a unit into the field that works, therefore, Johnson Outdoors will have to concede: no infringement if no working units. Now, maybe, if Johnson could somehow manage to get Linda back to work at Navico, they would have a chance!

Is there any chance to get a LSS-1 before they get pulled off the store shelve? With Lowrance's commitment to distribution are they still going to try to sell the LSS-1 as the court case goes on?

It's all going to come down to how airtight is Johnson's patent? If they have loopholes, like a max length of their transducer, then they will probably lose. Either way I'm sure it'll be tied up in courts for 2 years minimum, at which point Navico will have made enough to pay the infringement costs. Yahoo for the Lawyers. |

Lowrace Electronics in my boat for 20 years. Ordered Lowrance Products in my new boat this winter. Not one single problem so far. Could it be "operator error" from the Lowrance bashers?

How does operator error make the units leak and take on water? How does operator error make ducers fail? How does operator error take the contour lines away after paying extra for insight background mapping?
I have had all lowrance or eagle on my boats since my first boat in 1989, with only one tranducer to replace! But After seeing all those problems happen to friends last year and more than once watching friends fish erie tournaments without a finder or gps, I will be looking elsewhere for my new boat! |

That was one of the most ridiculous posts I've seen in a long time. I'm with Papascott on this one. Maybe he meant it was operator error dialing the correct phone number is why its so hard getting through to Lowrance customer service? And before you jump to conclusions I am a Lowrance user who had to send back 3 units in the last 5 years, but no longer since this summer I will be running Birds.

I have 3 Lowrance's, LCX38cHD, HDS7 & H2OC and I'm very happy with them. I wasn't bashing Lowrance just posting what they sent me.
It seems that Lowrance came out with down scan first or aleast advertised it first, then Humminbird came out with a down scan on the new units this year with there side scan and a up date for back year units. I also seen in a add in my In-Fisherman, this is how it's worded in the add. Lowrance HDS displays for the first true panoramic, 3 crystal sonar imaging for complete picture perfect underwater detail. So maybe that how Lowrance thing that there ok because they have a 3 crystal and I think HB has 2 crystals.
