Bird food balls

There was someone a few months back that mentioned that they make batches of food for their bird and then freeze. Every morning they would take a ball out and throw it in their cage for them to eat. Does anyone remember this post? If so do you remember the recipe that they used?

I was hoping to do something similar for my umbrella ****atoo. I need something that is quick and easy while making sure she gets the nutriments that she needs.

Years ago we made wild bird seed balls by combining peanut butter, dehydrated fruit chopped fine, with bacon grease, and bird seed. We only did this in the Winter for obvious reasons.

3 cups wild bird seed

1 cup fine gravel - they need this to digest the seed.

1 cup bacon Fat

1 cup peanut butter

Do this when it's cold enough so the food ball stays semi solid. Too warm and it will fall apart. Set out on high flat stumps or hanging from inner tree limbs at a point off the ground where the snow don't reach. After new snow fall go out to clear new snow away a good distance from the food ball. My sister in law puts the concoction using only finer/smaller bird seed in fine mesh bags (nylon stockings) and hangs them higher in the trees when it's warmer.
