Guys -
I've been running the same Yamaha OEM aluminum 17" pitch prop on my F75 since day one. There are some minor dings on it, but nothing too major. Most of them I have smoothed out and cleaned up the edges. How much of my top end do you think I've lost with a prop that has some wear but no major dings? This year I am treating my boat (& myself) to some new items and changing props could be one of those. I run a 04 1600 explorer and get about 37-38 at around 5700 rpms...last I checked. I just wanted to get anyones thoughts on what prop you would change to if you could..on a F75 running on a 1600 explorer. I could leave it alone, but want the motor to perform at its best. BTW...beating a buddy of mine w/ a brand new 75 etec - 1710 predator wouldn't be bad either. |

Every little bit of material that you take off a prop will in somehow affect the performance of that prop, it maybe speed, fuel ecomony, balanace. So buy another prop and use the current one for a spare. If you what to get the best performance out of that motor get a ss prop, Go with a Powertech RAF or a Mercury vengenance or a quicksilver silverado.

Would you stay with the 17pitch prop if you'd move to SS?

I am running the same prop (13.25" x 17P) Yamaha aluminum as you on my F80. Same speed and tach figures as you on a 1650 Lund.
I tried out a black steel Yamaha prop with the same size and pitch and got maybe 1-2 mph more at the same RPM. Mostly less than 2 mph on average. It sounds like you are setup for max performance right now. I added about 70 more pounds this year to my boat (3rd battery, motor and charger) but my fishing buddy lost 60 pounds. I am curious isf my performane is going to change because the extra weight is up front

Hey Crappie - I saw pictures of your boat a couple times..nice rig.
I fish with two guys...my boy who gained 10 lbs since last year and a friend who talks so much he acts more like a wind sock than anything. Do you just file out any nicks you get or do you take your prop to a shop to get touched up? I heard that even little nicks make it hard on the motor. I'll be down in your neck of the woods this weekend in McHenry. |

I usually clean up small nicks myself but for big repairs I go here:

I did the 90 conversion on my 09 75 . I was running the stock 15 pitch on my nav 175 tiller. Pulled 6000 at 32-33. Today in the 45 degree air temps I bounced the limiter at 6200 at 35. I need 17 pitch or maybe 15 stainless with some cup. I will let Ricky decide. My local dealer wont let me try a 17 stocker .

MNPike,
I have an Alumacraft 165CS, which I think is similar in size with your boat, with the F75 Yamaha and the 17 pitch prop. My top speed and rpm's on dead calm water is similar to yours with two adults, stuff and about 10 gallons of gas. Last year I posted questions about the prop / boat here and the consensus was that was the best prop for my boat. I have one prop in the shop now where they are grinding and welding on a new edge. $45. Nimstug Watch out for the gravel at the ramp in Lake Geneva..... |

If you go with a vengeance/silverado do a 16 pitch, Powertech I would run a 15 pitch.
