I troll a crawler harness with a smiley blade or colorado blade and red beads.

I will either use a bottom bouncer or a walking sinker with a barrel swivel.

Once they are recovered and ready to feed, I like cranks to locate them either by trolling or structure casting. They tend to be preaty active once the put on the feed bag again post spawn. The largest factor is what are they on the hunt for, fallow the food and you will find the eyes.

Three way trolling rigs with cranks or spinners often do well. Equally effective on rivers and on open water for locating fish.

Shallow warm water near spawning areas...Crawlers or fast action cranks ie. hot-n-tots. you can put a piece of crawler on one of the crank hooks for a little flavor too...

To me, it depends on what the water temperature is. If it is still under 50 degrees, my best luck is to pitch jigs with minnows, and fish them real sloooooow. To find the fish, I troll with boards and stickbaits in shallower (warmer) water until I find some fish, and then anchor up away from the fish and pitch to them. When in shallow water, you need to be quiet with getting set up and while fishing. Lots of noise will spook the fish and they will either move or not feed. Good luck and tight lines>

Really depends on the type of lake. Shallow stained prairie lakes warm up quick so you can fish more aggressively rather early. Also, the fish don't waste time moving out with their environment warming so quickly. Identify spawning areas and troll basins adjacent to these places. Some shallow dirty lakes maintain a good shallow bite from spawn to post spawn, so I check two prime areas on the banks first and move out rather quickly to troll.

In clear lakes I like to pin point spawning areas and then work nearest developing weed flats, larger is better. If weeds are slow to come you can find fish just out from these areas.

Night fishing is great too!

Good Luck!
