Unhappy Lowrance 510 problems

I have a 510c that I bought last year for my bow. It is hooked up to the universal transducer in my Minnkota power drive.

I am having 2 issue:

1: when I turn it on the depth reading just flashes for minutes before actually connecting with the bottom. sometimes I even have to pwer it down and turn it back on before it will read teh bottom.

2: I sometime get black dot all over the screeen

I have this unit wired to a fuse buss and I kept the wires away from the trolling motor wires. I have tried playing with the settings but still have the problem. I even went as far as having the trolling motor transducer changed but no luck.

Suggestions?

try doing a hard reset press and hold the ZIN and ZOUT buttons and keep holding them while you turn the power to the unit it on......

Chris, is that the same way you hard reset a 522? What is the difference between a hard reset and back to factory settings?
Thanks

I believe this will work on several models!

Lowrance 332C Reset Procedure.

Please perform the soft reset first and if that does not correct your situation, then perform the hard reset.
Please note, if you have any waypoints saved in your unit, to save them before performing the reset. The reset will erase all waypoints in your unit.

Soft Reset:
1. Turn unit OFF
2. Press and hold the PAGES key
3. Press and hold the PWR key
4. Release both buttons when the unit powers up

Hard Reset:
1. Turn unit OFF
2. Press and hold the ZIN&ZOUT Keys at the same time
3. Press and hold the PWR key
4. Release both buttons when the unit beeps.

Please let us know if this does not work for you. We may need to bring your unit in for testing.
Thank you for choosing Lowrance Electronics.

factory reset just sets the sonar settings back to what they were originally. a hard reset will set some of the software stuff back to original. let me know what you find out.... does it work with a normal ducer... possible that the ducer in the minnkota is bad..

Ok....I've been living with this issue with the exception of the black rain as it went away. Sometimes it works very well but when it gets in the right mood it will just flash a depth and will not get past this until I shut the unit off and on several times and finally works right.

I has figured the issue was with the universal sonar in the trolling motor but I bought a new terrova for my canada trip and it worked flawlessly for the first 4 days then sure enough the last 2 days I had to deal with the flashing depths.

Any suggestion besides buying a new unit?
