Humminbird AS-USB Serial to USB Adapter.
What is the difference between this Humminbird cable and a regular usb to serial port adapter you would buy at a computer store? Thanks |

Is Nobody using one of these? My computer does not have a serial port. These are $10 from a computer store as compared to $40 for the Humminbird plus shipping.

I think that you aren't getting a response because nobody with the newer Humminbirds has a need for the cable. What are you going to use it for/with? I've been able to do everything I've ever needed with SD cards that are usually plentiful. SD cards are far more convient than hauling the laptop out to the boat and I'm guessing the transfer rate is about 100,000 times faster too.
If you must, I'd buy the $10 cable and take it back if it doesn't work. I'll bet it works fine. I seriously doubt Humminbird reinvented the wheel with theirs. |

I would agree with the SD card. Unfortunately Humminbird has informed me that due to a Matrix 65 never taking a software update via the card slot it will require a hard wire update. Also I have a 17 that has no slot, therefore this is the only option.

I can tell you I bought a serial port to USB port cable off an internet site, and it does not work with my Humminbird serial port computer cable, nor does it work with my Garmin serial port computer cable. I don't know if I got a bad adapter or not. Since I still have a machine with a serial port, I never bothered with the adapter again.

Sounds like a serial port card for the computer maybe a better option.

That's the way I would have gone, except I use laptops. I have an old laptop with a serial port, and my wife's desktop has one too.
