Default Lund Compartments Not Watertight?

I've got a 04 Lund 2025. Pretty bummed that the floor storage compartments are not watertight. Had a couple of days that recently with some good rain & basically had to dry everything out. Is this normal? I've had several Ranger boats and never had this problem. Is there a way to seal them up a bit better? Thanks for the input. J

I have owned many Lund boats over the years and none of them had dry storage. So if it rained hard on a week long trip when I came home I would dry out all my compartments. The use of dry bags help but I don't think there is a perfectly dry boat out there.

Good to know. Every Ranger I've had is designed that the lid slips over and outside the inner compartment. Thus channels water outside the compartment. I was just assuming that Lund would have all their compartments dry storage capable also.

I never had a tin boat with dry compartments. Making a raised lip around the perimeter of the compartments would be quite labor intensive on a tin boat. On my Ranger I still keep all my stuff in the same dry bags and boxes I use on my tinnies. They are boats, things are bound to get damp, even from just atmospheric humidity.

My Lund Tyee has dry storage under the Gunwales and under the dash on both sides and they stay dry in the harsh conditions on Erie but the front storage gets a little wet. Maybe try to find where it is coming in with a hose and try to seal it unless it leaks everywhere. Esoxchaser sure is right about the humidity and boats!

Despite the lipped lids on the Lund storage, the compartments themselves are not sealed off from other ways water can get it,,,such as where the floor meets the side of the boat,or water coming up from the bilge.

To have a water tight compartment, it must be sealed off completly, such as a livewell would be. Never had (or saw) a Lund with that type of storage. I have seen some Alumacrafts with it, but not even for all the compartments.

If you plugged the drains, and had a lipped lid on your livewell, that would be the driest compartment in the boat.

Many boat companies including Lund have a lip, too. But when you get the lip full of water some is going inside.

Good to know. Once again, this is my first Lund and first "tin" boat. I've owned five rangers and for the most part the storage on them was all dry. I've not found one compartment on the Lund 2025 that is dry actually. Even the side compartments will get wet on heavy rain days. What is everyone using to keep extra clothes, life vests, tackle etc dry? Share the secrets...Thanks, j

Color coded dry bags and Pelican cases on my boat. Orange for safety equipment like flares, handheld VHF and life jackets. Yellow for general use items like sunblock and clothing. Red for tools and hardware. Green for strictly fishing items like spare reels, rigging cases etc.
