I have an hds 5 that i only use as a gps on the front, when i get done fishing for the day i cant figure out how to delete my trails. i have tried and have no luck. sometimes the trails doesnt even show up until i physically go into the menu and select save new trail. on my 27 i can at any time erase trails, this hds should be the same?

Press MENU when you have the Trails screen open. You will see the options to delete a single trail or all the trails.

When you start a new trail, make sure you have "display" enabled. You can hide or display any trail saved or active on your HDS.

Funny, I have the same problem now in reverse! I deleted all my trails and now I can't get it to start new trails. I screwed with it for over an hour while the rest of the crew was catching walleyes and it will start a new one but it's like after it goes so far on the display the back end of the trail starts to delete. I guess I'll have to get the manual out! By the way this is on an HDS7 should be the same though!

That is the same problem i have had with my hds 5 I went to delete the trails after a day of fishing and ever since i cant get the dang thing to start. and when it does it will take about 100ft or so for it to show up. i have had the manual out and i still cant figure it out.

you will need to change the trail logging from automatic to either time or distance and set it to update more frequently. I think its menu>menu>navigation>trail logging. or you can change the setting per trail, when you highlight the trail press menu and then i believe there is a trail logging option you can change.

I had an odd thing happen while I was playing with the units in regards to trails: Once I had a straight (white) line from my position to an intersection in Tulsa,anothet time a straight black line to somewhere off the coast of Africa (I zoomed out).

I had to restore default setting to get rid of them,then reset everything.

What happened?

the tulsa thing is probably based on your unit losing its stignal and/or being reset to default. not sure abut the other one.
