Default boat contents ?

rods, reels, lures, tackle boxes full, safety equipment, anchor, electric bow mount motor, kicker motor, electronics, fish finder, gps, marine radio, etc. Where do you begin to know how much to have the contents covered for ?
It there a standard or do you just get a calculator and count what is in your boat and add it all up ?
Is the electric bow mount and kicker motor considered contents ?

My policy says "boat, motor, trailer and equipment" . "Equipment" is not specific but would likely cover anything attached such as sonar and trolling motor, and even anchor and life jackets.

Fishing gear is likely another story, but homeowners can usually cover a portion of that, just as it would if you had personal belongings stolen from a car,,as opposed to the radio being ripped out and stolen, which would be covered by auto comp. If you had a real HIGH value of fishing equipment, you can probably get it covered with an endorsement but you will pay extra.

I would add up what is specifically boat equipment, including electronics, Then add up your fishing gear in a separate total ,then have a serious talk with your agent about both. My inventory actually not too extensive, but I should probably do the same.
When first got my policy,my agent simply asked me how much did I want to insure the whole thing for. I gave him my out the door value including all my accessories.

It will be different with each company. They all have different ways of doing things. I ask my clients to take an inventory of all there equipment and we get photos of all there equipment. If you have a theft, It will make the whole claims process much easier. I try to educate all my clients on how to make the claim process and easy as possible. I hope this helps. Thanks Bob Luellen

Inventory and take pics of ALL my stuff ! This could take awhile. 52 rod and reel combos ,two or three Reefrunners, gotta add the new Terrova. Oh well it has to be done before the season gets going. I really think Bob just wants to check out my lure collection
