Default HDS-5 issue

for starters, its a new HDS-5 unit with a new platinum navionics map

when i turn my finder on for the first time in the day, i get a bland no dimension picture that comes up on my map. no contours marked, just blue water and brown land. (looks like a crayon drawing)
i turn the unit off and fire it back up and get a nice topo' map with islands and depth contours marked.
did this since it was new
never tried pulling the card out and reinstalling it. just powering up or down the depth finder
is it a problem with my HDS or my chip?
i have a friend with the same navionics chip, just have to wrestle it away from him to try and test it out
thanks
-Josh

The same thing happens on my hds-8.
I just pull it out and put it into the other slot.

do you have 3.0 software? also sometimes you have to "wear in" the pins, either the card or the reader can have some residuals that cause them to not make good contact right away. I've just put the card in and out a few times and works just fine...

Double check that your map source is set to Navionics. I do not have this problem with my 7 and Hot Maps Premium.

yeah, i made sure the software was up to date and made sure i had selected navionics for my map source. i will try just removing the card next time and see what happens.
never saw an issue with the old HDS-10 on my dads boat but he had a used chip...
glad i'm not the only one this happens to, thanks for the input guys!

3.5 software just released a couple days ago. I suggest upgrading.

I would suggest doing ASAP if your unit is still under warranty. With Lowrances record I would want it fixed before the warranty expires.

I think your problem is related to your new mapping, and your older software version now in your HDS. The new 3.5 update should fix it.
