If I was to buy 1 gun for everything, I would have a 28" barrel you pick the brand.
My all around guns are an old 12 ga fox with 26" barrels
a 20 ga Beretta 390 with a 24" barrel.
But my preferences are shorter than most, I prefer faster handling guns for heavy cover and fast moving targets.

My fowling piece is 30".

My SBE II is actually 28" with the patternmaster in it for fowling.

That makes me think of something I learned the hard way...I spent 20 years shooting an SKB 280E SxS with 25" barrels...until I found out that there were guns with longer barrels that were just as light and fast...and I'd learned the habit of always stopping in an opening and sticking to the near side of the openings so that I could always swing the barrels - I've never had my 28s get caught anyplace the 25s wouldn't have.
