Default Fall question

Guys my first year walleye fishing, I fish a lake with deep in the middle and some weed flats around the edges..I've caught eyes on a shallow bay only when the wind churned up the water during a storm and wind in that direction. If the wind churns it up in the fall will they move in like in summer? Thanks

Sometimes, yes. Sometimes even better than just "yes".

Sometimes not.

Depends on the lake which determines what the walleyes will be feeding on. The lake I fish the most has a cisco/perch/minnow forage, so it gets kinda complicated when you are trying to predict where they will be at any given moment.

I changed lakes this past Saturday night into a perch/minnow forage. The walleyes were in 4-11 feet right where they were supposed to be on the wind swept side of the lake. Maybe I need to move?!?

Default They are not moving great distances my friends.

Not in a short period of time that is. They are where you found them for weeks on average until seasonal changes occur. They turn active because of the chop. It disguises there predatory movement and makes it easier to catch prey.

Some of my favorite places to look for fall walleye during the day are shoreline-connected rock bars and artificial fish cribs. They are often associated with big crappies in these locations. You can learn more about this pattern in this article:

Default Do Your Homework

If you find the food source, you will find the walleyes. As the water gets colder in late fall, the walleyes generally move deeper and use rocks if they are available. But, there are exceptions to every rule in fishing. It's best to do your homework and study the bodies of water you intend to fish.
