Default Best way to build a shanty!

Looking at building a 5x6 shanty and was hoping for some input on the best way to build a good shanty. From Materials, framing, insulating, siding and a pulling system(runners)!!
Thanks for any info

I would go with a trailer. I am not a big fan of the runner type. Set up a trailer with a tuber system and you are set. The next shanty I do will be an old camper or one of those trailers that duck/goose hunters use to haul their crap in.

If you are looking to build a small house on runners, we have built a few. We build a insulated floor, attach laminated beams for runners, they are indistructable. One can find 8-10' scraps on jobs at times. We then build a very lightweight frame of 2 x2 's 24" on center, cover the interior with a light weight sheeting of choice, add windows doors, etc to your prefrence and then have the outside spray foamed 2-3". Use the solid poly type and paint the foam with rubber roof coating. Light weight, warm, easily repaired, etc...

dang I like the idea of painting the foam insulation! That might be worked into my next shanty.

I had built one this summer, it is 8x12. To help keep it light, on the outside I used siding from the neighbour redoing his house, I built it from the inside out. I used 2x4 walls, then used either hardboard or paneling on the inside walls, then used syrofoam insulation, then the siding. I have the floor, walls, roof all insulated. I have three 4"x4" runners, with all the old snowmobile sliders that I can find in town to put under the runners. It is a lot stronger than I thought it would be. I am not sure what it weighs, but I should be able to pull it with my atv with the tracks. The one thing I wish it had was a propane furnace instead of a wood stove. It is wired for the generator with colour tv and satalite radio. I have used it a few times already for hunting (the ice is not thick enough yet), so I just have it on shore waiting for the ice to get better. Sure is comfy though!!
