Hi
Most of the fish houses have been pulled onto the ice here at Mille Lacs - the roads are plowed and ice conditions are generally good. Ice thickness is running around 15 inches. Big changes in temperature (like this) will cause the ice to shift... use your head when you travel on ANY ice. The walleye bite has been best in the deep water (25+ feet). Some days we'll see a preference toward rocks, gravel or mud but the overriding factor is the depth... you're likely to do better in the deeper water. The best bite is at daylight and again at dark, Use a Willow Spoon or a Slender Spoon tipped with a minnow. Perch tend to be better in the 12-20 foot range. Use a #2 or 3 Pimple in FYN, FYG or the CH with the single hook and a few Euros. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The weather for the weekend (from the National Weather Service) looks like this: Friday: A chance of snow, freezing rain, and sleet before noon, then snow and freezing rain. High near 20. North northwest wind between 11 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. Friday Night: Snow likely, mainly before 3am. Cloudy, with a low around 3. Wind chill values between -2 and -12. Northeast wind 8 to 14 mph becoming south southwest. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New Year's Day: A 40 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 7. West southwest wind between 10 and 15 mph. Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around -8. Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 7. The new moon is 1-4-2011. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Don't forget to check out our weekly "shop special" at http://www.lundeens.com/shop.html . Once again this winter we will be renting FL20's, power augers and underwater cameras. Be sure to reserve them ahead to assure availability. Getting your house ready for the ice? We stock all sorts of "fish house stuff" like thermocouples, regulators, 12V light bulbs, mantles, globes and LP gas. Auger dull? We have sharp new blades AND exchange blades in stock for most augers - spark plugs and oil too! Heck, we'll even fill your auger with pre-mixed gas and oil! We will close at 8PM on New Year's Eve and will re-open about 6AM New Years Day. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers for their business and support during the 2010 season. We at Lundeen's Tackle Castle, along with our employees and fishing guides look forward to serving you in the New Year. Finally, A lady answered her front door to find a plumber standing there. "I'm here to fix the leaky pipe," he announced. "I didn't call a plumber," said the lady. "What?" huffed the plumber. "Aren't you Mrs. Frobisher?" The Frobishers moved out of this house over a year ago," explained the lady. "How do you like that," grunted the plumber. "They call you up and tell you it's an emergency and then they move away!"
