Red face Head or Tails on Tip Ups

Do you hook your minnow by the lip or the tail when using tipups?

Dorsal fin. Treble hook. Species determines hook/minnow/line size.

Yep Dorsal fin (top of back) with a treble hook.

In the summer i used crappie minnows and hook thru the tail. They live longer that way. Totally different ice fishing.

for walleye, so you use a treble hook not a single and hook through the doral fin. Thanks

Treble hooks may not be legal when not attached to a "lure" in all areas, so may want to check regs.

Default dorsal fin

Always thru the dorsal fin with a small (12 or 14) treble hook. The smaller and lighter hook is less of a burden on the minnow and thus, more action. When I catch a walleye, I simply break the line, and either retie or use a backup tipup, then take the treble out when cleaning the fish. If I put the fish back, the hook will rust out and do less harm to the fish than trying to dislodge a hook from deep in the throat.
