Default Noisy Flashers

I recently purchased the Vexilar FL 18 Genz pack after seeing it drop to $339. After getting it home and turning it on, MAN was it noisy. I didn't notice this as much in the store. For a guy that likes to fish in relative silence, I think the noise would drive me crazy. Any input on which flashers are quieter? I'm going to return the Vexilar and am looking to spend around $300-$400. Thanks.

Default Birds the word

Try one of the Humminbird Units. They are the quietest units I have fished with. Ice 35, 45 or 55 are all great flashers.

The other option is to go with an LCD. No noise at all there. The Humminbird 385ci is agreat portable unit with GPS or the 345 with out GPS.

My Marcum is much quiter than a Vex. Not sure how it compares to a 'Bird.

LX-3 runs $400. but they'll be on sale soon for $350.

Soon it will become sweet music to your ears!!!

For me its just become one of the many sensations I love and associate with being out on the ice!

Could be the brushes are dirty. That will make it noisy. I don't know how to clean/fix them, but it is not hard or expensive I don't think. Happened on my LX5 once, and I have heard it on plenty of Vex's too.

Usually the hiss of the propane heater muffles out the hum of a Vex.

my marcum VX-1 gets a little noisey at times. sometimes i can turn it off and then on again and it is quiet, if not i play with the gain a little and that helps sometimes. or i just use my selective hearing.........

The position of the head unit can effect how loud the flasher is, try tilting it down slightly. They tend to break in and the noise will lessen in time.

I own several Vexilar FL series flashers, and after the first 30 seconds of use, I seldom ever notice the hum of the flasher.
