I recently purchased a st. croix legend extreme 6'9'' mlxf and I was just going to pair it with a mitchell 300 series or cardinal from one of my other poles but I figure I spent the money on the rod I mine as well buy a light reel and see how good that is. I am kind of between the stradic and the patriarch, has anybody used one? Is there anything that stands out with one over the other? What did you like/not like about it? I appreciate any feedback.

do you own a steez? From the research I have done there isn't enough of a difference to justify the extra money switching to a stella or steez. I only intend to use it on walleye and have other rods/reels for larger fish and won't need the added performance of the higher end reels, I just want to cut weight for vert. jigging.

Have not used any of the others but I have two stradics 1000 and 2500. Enjoy fishing with both of them. Very smooth and no little quirks like I have with other reels.

Guys really swear by the older stradics. I read on another forum that the newer stradics had some gear or whining noise to them because the newer materials carry the sound. I don't have any more knowledge then that to go on. Hopefully someone here does. Any feedback is usually good on here.

The previous Stradics had some plastic sleeves on the drive shaft to buffer out a lot of the noise. If you're just fishing, you probably won't notice the noise from the new Stradics, and forget it altogether when you're catching fish on it.
The Pfleuger are going to feel smoother than the Stradics. But the Stradics do a better line lay on the spool, so that will get you smoother casting.

I have several pfluegers and they all lay the line down as even as possible. I cant speak for the new patriarch but i would imagine it would exceed the older supreme xt in performance...which is an awesome reel. i actually thought the older stradics were smoother than the pfluegers...barely noticiable tho. imho the patriarch would look killer on that extreme.

Ordered the patriarch in 9530. Should be a really nice set-up, and it will look good if nothing else! Should tip the scale at 9.6oz. with reel and rod, thats less then the other reel weighs I was going to put on it.

I have used the Stradic C14 1000F in combination with St Croix Premier 6'6" UL for vertical jigging 1/8 ounce jigs. The carbon fiber is very light. The only lighter spinning reel they offer is the Stella 1000FE. The C14 is a very smooth reel.
It was a dream to use and a very noticeable improvement in quality over my Symetre 500 reels. I also use a regular Stradic and there is a noticeable difference in weight from 7.4 to 6.1 oz. Carbon Fiber is more versatile for salt water applications. I also really liked the round handle. It feels good on the fingers when reeling. It is a very quiet reel, noise free. I have been looking at the same rod you bought. Pair it up with a Stella 1000FE and some Tatsu Fluorocarbon and you have a rod and reel for any purpose, from bluegills to Chinook. |

I'd vote Stradic, either the 1000FI or the CI4, they're both exceptional reels. I've had no issues with "noise" from mine, and the quality, light weight, and drag systems on these reels can't be beat unless you spend 3X the money.
I'd spring for the CI4 1000. You'll have the lightest, most sensitive rig going and it will last you a long time. Waxy |
