Sweet choice. I fished somebody else's similar set up on the Mississippi back in Dec., and was impressed enough to get a St. Croix Extreme 6'8" baitcaster about a month ago.

Next I will be duplicating your set up, or very close to it.

Pictures, if you get a chance?

I think it has something to do with the line diameter and the shape of the spool as it's kind of angled, more narrow at the spool arbor. Once in a while, I get a spool with fresh line on and it looks great. Usually I get it looking conical.

I don't think the Arbor reels will get much noticeable distance, otherwise the US Reels would be used by a lot more people. However the concept of a larger spool should help reduce the coily line memory. I used to use a Diawa Regal Z 3500 and it wasn't noticeably further casting. In fact the large spool was counter productive for lighter weights and rod guides that were smaller caused more resistance. That's probably the most important thing. Matching the larger reel spool with a larger rod line guides.

Default Good Point

Walleye fisherman do not need the high priced features of some of the reels out on the market today. If your like me I tighten the drag down and back reel. I always look for lightweight and strength that is why I like the Steez. Another great walleye reel is the Diawa SS Tournament Series 1300 for rigging and the lightweight 700 for jigging, Good point Superstock

I only intend to use it on walleye and have other rods/reels for larger fish and won't need the added performance of the higher end reels, I just want to cut weight for vert. jigging.

Default Pictures with line on

Figured I would throw up 2 pics of it up before I handled it and beat it up any. It's definatly a light set up, and should make a joy to fish with.

Default yep

It is a lot of line, the arbor is full but you can do that with a braid, it won't unwind off like a line with memory would, and yes it is the 832. I fished with it tonight and I hate to say it but I really liked it. Is it worth the price over fireline or power pro...I can't answer that but I do like it, it is strong I had 6lb line and I bumped it over a lot of concrete jigging and hung it up in some brush and it pulled out which I was sure I'd snap it. The place I went I usually lose quite a few jigs and I fished for an hour or so but the setup is so sensitive over the pole I usually use I never pulled it into anything and was able to bounce if over. I didn't lose a jig. I normally use an xmlti which is a nice pole, but this setup was a lot more sensitive. I have around 20 rod/reel combos and the price of this one made me really cringe but it sure is sweet.

Default patriarch for sure

I just put the -25 series patriarch (5.6 ounces) on my sjr 722 GLX. Now that is a light set up! I picked up my 6' Legend elite with a stradic 1000 to compare. There was a noticeable difference. You got a nice set up there. Enjoy!
