Just wondering if any of you have tried the Rainy River lately, how did you do, and where did you do it?
Good luck, Jawjerker |

I've been doing well almost everyday. Lots of smaller walleye, not too many big ones as of yet.
I'm fishing manitou mainly, which is on the canadian side across from loman. I've seen some beauties pulled from the long souix though, which is the canadian side of the birchdale launch |

The boy and I ran up today from Bemidji. We started at Birchdale landing and worked our way west to Frontier. Slow, but Junior boated a beauty... more details here:

Yep, stay home, leave all the fish for me! lol
Yesterday was slow, but the fish are still there. When the water levels/clarity change, you just need to adjust to it and fish the right baits. Just because the water is dirty doesn't mean all the fish starve! |

You must be smarter than the other couple hundred fishermen that we talked to that caught zero fish yesterday and were going home early. Clarity is less than 4 inches. The fork went up 6 feet overnight and is ready to bust loose...send us your pics, I would love to see them! If you caught fish yesterday (more than 2) you could have made big bucks with a seminar at the boat ramp. It should be noted that some locals that derive an income from spring fishing are not being 100% honest with the fishermen.

No fishing here today, and I hope no one had boats on the shoreline. Water went up 3ft yesterday alone, after a week of raising water levels all last week. Went from a 6ft average and doubled to 12ft. Here is a few pics from shore fishing. All the walleye were in the 17-22" range, no big mommas. I must also say I dont guide or make a living fishing here, just for the fun of it! Last edited by ManitouBass; 04-11-2011 at 08:45 AM. |

and no, I'm not any smarter than the hundreds of anglers that didn't do well on Rainy. I just have alot of time and experience here. It takes alot of patience to land walleye when the water levels rise, or fall drastically.
I will say one thing though, they do suspend off bottom, and thats one thing some anglers may be forgetting? Also, With the water temps where they are at right now, many are fishing too deep, don't be afraid to cast and retrieve shallow. |
