Default Batteries

Went to sears today to buy 2 Diehard Platinum series 31 for my trolling motor. I was shocked to see a maufacture date of 12-08. There was no way I was going to buy these batteries. Iasked about ordering some, his response was I may get some older ones. I told him I would be interested in batteries over 60 days from manufacture date. He said good luck. I went to batteries plus they have a dry cell with 5 year full replacement. Chargers might be a challenge, I cannot find a onboard charger for drycell batteries. I always enjoy everyones opionions and experiences, please help. What should a person do?

Try a different Sears store or consider switching brands. You are right to refuse such old batteries. IIRC, the Interstate battery company recycles unsold batteries past a certain age, so you would not find such antiques for sale.

Default Dry cell

The gentleman at Batteries plus told me they are brand new type of battery and have been out for only 2 months. What I liked about them is the 5 Year full reolacement warranty and close to the same cost as a diehard platinum. One thing that may not be desirable is the chargers. He said they are chargable with a regular charger but should really use a dry cell charger that they wont even have available for another 2 weeks and of course not available yet in an onboard charger. Checked with 2 other sears stores and both were out of diehard platinum, they do not know what they will get and cannot guarantee me fresh ones. Very frustrating.

If you come across a Sears salesman who is cooperative, ask him to call you when there is a battery delivery and, better yet, tell you the born-on dates of the batteries.

Re: the drycells at Batteries Plus- it sounds like a "pig in a poke" to me. I wouldn't touch them. Unless- those are the Odyssey brand batteries. If so, do a search on that name- they have been discussed before.
