I am planning on a 2-3 day walleye trip to either the Detroit River or somewhere like Port Clinton OH. I have fished Detroit in the past wtih mixed results and would like to try something new. I'm all set up for trolling or jigging. Any advise would be appreciated! Plan on arriving the Monday after Easter.

going to Detroit gives you a back up plan if the wind blows. Just look at the MWC from today, the lake had 14' waves but everyone could still fish the river. Most teams came in with a limit also. If you go to port clintion and the weather sucks you are stuck in the hotel.
I like to Launch at lake erie metro park. its a nice facility and it gives quick access to the lake, or the lower river. |

You might want to go to Monroe Mi if it is windy you are only 15 minutes to the Det. river and if you can get out on the lake it is about 7 miles to the lighthouse reefs good luck and enjoy!

If you think you can run from Monroe area of Lake Erie to the Detroit River in rough seas you are crazy. Try maybe 30 - 40 minutes, especially when you come into the mouth of the river in rough water.

I would say more like 20 minutes at least from Sterling State Park to Lake Erie Metro Park those are the closest Launch from the lake to the river. IMHO.

I meant trailering the boat to the river not running by water which is only a few miles by road. Staying in Monroe he could also trailer the boat to wild wings or other launches in that area in about 15-20 minutes as well which would allow him to fish more reefs if the lake is calm. |

If he runs to wild wings in 15-20 minutes he'll get several tickets on the way for topping 120 mph LOL
