Default HB 788 CI GPS Speed Issues..!

I have a HB 788 CI. I cannot slow troll with these units as the GPS speed jumps all over the place. I realize wind, waves, current, etc can have an impact. However, this is much different. In dead calm water using the trolling motor I can be trolling at .8 but yet the GPS reading will jump from .8 to 1.5, 2.3, back to 1.8, etc. I have to carry my trusty Lowrance hand held up front just to tell what speed I am actually at.

My 597ci HD seems to do the same thing. 50 channel GPS was advertised as being very accurate. What's the deal?

I have the exact same problem with my 2010 798 c si. I just downloaded a new software version from HB and will test it out next week to see if it corrected the problem.

788ci, same issues here. It has the newest 5.4 update too. You can turn the unit on while on the trailer and it jumps around. How are you supposed to hold a true speed while trolling?

Seems like all these units are of the internal antenna type. Where do you guys have them mounted? Anything that could possibly be blocking the signal? I have the same unit dash mounted in my Reata with zero issues.

I will also be interested to see what the issue is.

It's on a tiller boat, with zero obstructions.

No obstructions blocking the unit. In fact I used it this winter ice fishing and it did the same thing. I was once going 2.5 GPS sitting still on a bucket...truely amazing!

Call the help desk. They should not be jumping around. Bob
