I can't get a seat post out in my Lund. I have sprayed it with a little wd-40 and have had two guys pulling on it at the same time to try to lift it out. Any suggestions on how to get a seat out? It is the standard wedge post with the tab that you push in or lift to release.

I've had relatively good luck putting ice around the plastic. Not sure if the temperature change shrinks something or if it was the water weeping down in there.
Once you get it out, use parafin wax in there to make sure it doesn't happen again. If your kid skateboards, ask him for some wax. LOL |

My son is melting any wax he can find and selling it to kids at the skate park. Since he has been doing that the cubcakes taste a little like wax and mom just loves to come home to the mess he makes in the kitchen.
I will give the ice thng a try!

I carry a rubber mallet in my boat for just this application. Take seat off post, bang post with mallet while pulling...it will come out.

I mix Dawn dishsoap with water & pour it around the base & let it slowly seep down. Most of the time it only takes a few minutes & the post will come out. Then I use the rest to clean out the base but make sure to use clean water to finish up or the post might pop out when you are leaning hard on it.

For the Ranger bases I have cut off all the hooks that keep the set from coming out. Trying to push on the button and pull at the same time did not make sense. I have never had a seat pop out in the 10 years I have been doing this.

Camping,
The best thing to do with pedestal seats is to get rid of them. Remove all of the pedestal seat bases and pedestals. Replace the seats that you want to use with fixed base seats. Fixed seat bases are so much more secure and free of problems. I think that in every boat, there are some seats that just never come out. These are likely the drivers seat, possibly a passenger seat, and possibly a bow seat. If that is the case, save time, trouble and frustration and change them to fixed seats - preferably with an adjustable height on them. Take care REW |
