Terrova I Pilot & Kicker

I tried running my kicker with the I-Pilot using the cruise control. What is the best way to run the kicker and use the I-Pilot for steering? I was trying to troll at 2.5 GPS and found the I-Pilot would not kick down from 9-10. I played with the kicker speed and noticed if I gave it too much juice the I-Pilot with go to zero which left nothing for steering.

Adjust the trollmaster to 2.0 mph and then adjust the Ipilot for the additional .5 mph

OK- I have the trollmaster with RPM gauge. So Basically don't use the cruise control function on the I-Pilot? Just set the troll master around 2.0 and set trolling motor at speed to reach desired trolling speed?
