The other day you all helped me with upping my. Top end- my tach was set wrong from the dealer, now I have a new problem.
Yesterday I went out and bought a new humminbird 898cc SI and wired it all in. I moved my old 550 to the front, wired it into my lund prewired power and hooked it up to my terrova. The old power lines for the 550 at the dash, now power the 898 and I mounted the transducer on the transom and the gps near the console. Hooked everything up and was happy to turn it on, and bam- nothing. No power to anything in the boat (bildge, horn, lights) but the trolling motor still works, and the motor seems to work- at least the trim does. I checked my dash fuses and they all seem okay. I'm at a loss, and frigging pissed as you would imagine. Any ideas? Maybe the lines prewired from lund are crossed so when I soldered that to the 550 it shorted something? I'm not sure why it would though... Any insight is appreciated. |

Look for fuses near the starting battery.
New boats have their frustrations and wiring mistakes at the factory do happen. My pontoon nav light switch was mis-wired and blew the fuse imediately when turned on, yet the build checklist said the lights were tested and found to be "OK". Made me wonder what else wasn't really tested. |

I took off the switch plate to get behind the switches and noticed someone had poorly electrical taped things together. When I held all connections tight the bildge, lights, horn etc worked so I just need to rework that. Still trying to figure out the new sonar though- I'll keep this updated since I'm still working it out.

Personally, I'd wire the 898 directly to the starting battery, with an inline fuse of course. You might have read posts where folks complain about their sonar cutting out when starting the main motor. This is due to a voltage drop at the main fuse panel where many folks wire their electronics. An electronic devise cutting off due to low voltage is never good for it. Give your 898 full voltage from the battery, and not through a fuse panel.
