...Sorry guys, another stupid rookie question... I have a Lowrance LCX 27c that came with the boat I bought used. It came with a card that has Lake Michigan in 5' depth intervals, and I want a card with 3' intervals, but I want my waypoints too. My question is, are my waypoints stored in the Lowrance unit, or in the map-chip? If I buy a new card and put it in and head out to the water, will my waypoints be there? The mapchip tray has room for 2 cards, but I would have to figure out how to utilize them both, and that sounds like a lot of work for a person as electronically challenged as I am! Any help is much appreciated.

Your waypoints are stored on the unit, not the map chip. Buy the new chip and plug it in before you go to the lake. Fire up your unit in the garage and go look at some of the lakes where you have waypoints, they should be there. It's possible they are on your chip but I doubt it unless you put them there and I doubt that also since your challenged.

In ref to the above, I'd also make sure I backed up the waypoints on a different SD card after every use. That way if you loose the unit or have to do a factory reset, you do not loose all the important info.
And JigNTroll is 100 correct about the sotrage of the waypoints, as well as routes and tracks. To make usure you don't inadvertantly add the waypoints to the chart, you can run the chart with the lock on. That will take care of any chance you. And with Navionics, yo don't want to run the chart in anything but one of their card readers on a computer. They are encrypted. LC
