Default Palamor knot

Unless, one has to make a mid line knot, why does anyone use anything other than the Palamor knot to tie up a line to a jig or hook?

A palamor knot is a simple overhand knot with the hook fed through the loop.

Feed the line through the hook, back through the hook to form a loop. Keep the loop large for easy tying. Drop the hook through the loop and pull tight. Done. Generally about 2-3 seconds to tie.

Two piece of line run through the hook eye and virtually no failures.

Of course the Berkley, Clinch, common fishermen's knot all work, but why take the time and effort when such a simple knot as the Palamor Knot works so well?

You almost do not even need to know any other knots for most fishing. But leaders or 3 way rigs you need to use something different.

REW Also a mid-line tie is possible with a palomar, I use it for drop shotting, you just make the "doubled" line section much longer then use the free tag end to tie on your sinker.

Even a loop is doable with the palmoar knot and I tie all my slip-bobber leaders and crawler harnesses with it. Beats the agony of tying a perfection loop.

It's the knot I tie 95% of the time. Only other knot I use regularly is the uni-uni knot.

Learned that knot a long time ago from not only a "Fishing Master", but a "knot master", Bobby Murry!! (Winner of the first ever "Bassmaster Classic)

The one mistake that "MOST" people make with the Palamor knot though, is they tie it exactly as you've described REW, whereas if you "flip" the loop that you've pulled the hook thru back over the two smaller loops, then pull tight, you lose no line strength at the knot and the way you describe you only retain approx 80% line strength at the knot. Bobby proved that to me several times on almost the same knot/line test machine they use on "Knot-Wars"! Been tying it his way ever since and nary a problem with it! Almost the only other knot I'll use is a back to back uni to join two lines together!

Never had a Palomar knot failure with braid, fluro or mono. Use it for everything from 80# braid for Flatheads to 2# flurocarbon for panfish and stream Trout. I still prefer to snell though when using circle hooks, snelling helps the circle to turn the right way when you hook up.
