Default Evinrude e-tech question

I am interested in re powering my Lund boat with an Evinrude 130 e-tech 130 HP. I currently have a Mercury 115 4-stroke which is ok but I want more power. Is anyone here using an Evinrude? What are your thoughts and opinions on it?
The 3 year no maintenance sounds very good. Less parts to deal with, just as fuel efficient, more power, better torque, not very noisy, no chocking and starts up every time. Everything I read is just as good if not better the a 4 stroke without all the hassle of a regular 2 stroke.

You also may want to consider the E-Tec 115HO. Go to www.etecownersgroup.com for loads of unbiased information.

I own a 150 E-Tec and at this point Evinrude would be my first choice if I were buying today with a 2 stroke Merc being the 2nd choice.

You wrote this, ( Everything I read is just as good if not better the a 4 stroke without all the hassle of a regular 2 stroke.) I would agree completely but these facts tend not to sit well with some 4 stroke owners.

Most of the motors made now are good and come with good extended coverage. Evinrude makes nice motors but this is more a Mercury site.

Hi Kris,
I love my E-TEC. I have a 1700 Lund Explorer tiller with a 75 E-TEC. I would think long and hard about the E-TEC 115 HO. The bad thing about the E-TEC is you need a good supply of hats!
Good luck to you.

Don't know what the price comparison is but the 115HO is putting out close to 126HP from the reports I have heard. Not sure the price difference between that and a 130? I love my etec and have had zero issues. The no maintenance is great and it has been a solid motor. Also love the winterization feature too. Makes storing very easy.

Default don't bet on it

3 years no maint.......wrong. study the etecownersgroup well. don't even think about buying a used one out of warranty. buy new and make sure all the t's are crossed and the i's are dotted on the warranty. stay on the dealer til you know the paper work is completed and registered with brp.

these engines are very fussy if they are not set up right by a well qualfied, experienced tec schooled in etec. an etec not set up right and maintained well will have you repalceing injectors; $600-$700 a pop; gaskets, starters, tilt and trims, fouled plugs etc etc.

i would compare these motors to a "high maintanance hot chick", you'll love the ride but tire of the constant attention these girls need until at one point down the road she settles in and it's happily ever after. this has been my experience with my 75.

6 years after i bought her i'm extremely happy with the motor now but the first three years there were a few times i thought about unbolting her and letting her sink to the bottom of the lake.

good luck if you choose the etec road, you'll be grinning ear to ear every time you knock one of your buddies off the boat seat because they don't expect the takeoff or you'll be screaming p.o.s, p.o.s a year down the road. there isn't any in-between with these motors.

Dude, Im a HUGE ETEC GUY, but like above the Motor is Far from NO Maintenance for 3yrs.....Drain lower unit (good idea, not required),Run Stabil in fuel in a double dose before winter, unhook battery, pretty much the same as a Optimax,ALOT of my Business is Fluff and Marketing, Ive sold them all, I will tell you Evinrude has the 115-130hp Motor size LOCKED UP, NO ONE, will compete with a 115ho or 130, that motor is a true sewing machine, Torque all over the Range and when you hit 4500 rpms the Exhaust Valve changes and Poof your rockin 6000 rpms, oh and its Super quiet......**** I sell Mercs and Ill post that statement....

I have a 150 E-Tech and I love it. Every time I start it up around someone new they always have that shocked look on their face and say " that's a two stroke?". You seriously can barely hear it running. You better have everything pinned down when you take off because the hole shot is fantastic. I did have problems with the lower unit and Evinrude replaced it with a bran new one with no questions. Like already stated I think any new motor is going to be great and if you decide on the E-Tech you won't be dissatisfied. PS,you will really like how easy it is to winterize it, takes like three minutes on your last trip out... Good luck bud.

Kris,
not sure where in Ontario you're located, but I'd cross the border to use these guys as my E-TEC dealer http://www.lockemans.com/index.html

They've been handling OMC/BRP motors since Ole went for ice cream.

Default E-tec

Hard to beat starting up first time eveytime, maintenance is easy, top off the oil reservoir put fuel in the tank and turn the key, it's just that easy. Love my 90 but having a qualified/competent technician/dealer helps too if things go wrong, almost two weeks waiting for a injector install, dealer is busy working on sleds... in summer(rant). Remember to prop for optimum not recommended rpm. I can't remember if the 115 and 130 have a water separator under the cowl I know the v6's do.
