Default Quick release bracket for a Maxxum?

I want to get a quick release bracket for my Maxxum bow mount and am looking for advice on which one to get. Minn Kota makes two styles, one is two pieces of extruded aluminum that slide together and hold with a thumb screw (Minn Kota model MKA-52/62) and the other has a protruding rectangle on one plate and a depression on the other that set into each other (Minn Kota model MKA-23). Anyone have an opinions on which one works best? Likes/dislikes?

Thanks,

Joe

I just bought a MKA-42 with the thumb screw. Used it for the first time the other day. Before the trip I made sure the thumb screw was as tight as I could get it by hand. I forgot about it and after I got home I noticed that the screw had backed nearly out and the top and bottom nearly separated. This was only a 50 mile round trip. I put locktight on the screw and tightened it with pliers. Just sayin...

Do you have a lock washer on the thumb screw? The plate I had on my old boat had the thumb screw with a regular washer and a lock washer. It never worked its way loose in 10 years...no lock tight, no pliers used.

I have the metal plate with the thumb screw for my Terrova. I have never had the thumb screw back out. Make sure you have the split lock washer on there. I also have a small lock on mine.

In regards to which mount.... I wanted the best one and did not want to skimp since I splurged for the Terrova with I-Pilot. With that being said I went with the metal instead of the composite/plastic mount. I heard some bad things in regards to cold weather and the plastic. My favorite time to fish is in Nov and it can be quite cold on Erie

I have the MKA23 puck style mount for my 80lb Terrova. It is solid and provides for a very clean installation.

I had one of those sliding ones with the thumbscrew on my old 65 AP

It also had a hole in it where I could put a padlock, which I did

that worked out fine, I liked it. Did not have to worry about a screw coming loose with that setup.

I dont know if the one you are looking at has this, but I think it would to prevent theft

Ditto on Perchjerker's comment. There a hole to padlock it at the rear. I always put a lock on mine.

I have the MKA 23 and really like it easy on and off. If the boat is used more then for fishing much cleaner and no sharp edges up front if one has to climb over the bow.

I have the black plastic ones, which I have one for my maxxum and my power drive. I like them both. I also have the metal sliding one, which to me is larger and more cumbersome.
