Hi, I'm going to leech lake to fish friday through sunday on labor day weekend with my dad. I'm a college student from Iowa hoping to get into some good walleye fishing. I didn't know if anyone could help with some locations and what they are biting on as of now. Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Also didn't know if any other species were biting on the lake?
Thanks! |

Not sure why but it seems to be a tough year for walleyes on Leech and the lack of reports seems to confirm this. Unless the cooler temps get the fish going Winnie just down the road might be a better option.

Go to the 8-15 foot depths and troll cray fish colored crankbaits across feeding flats.
Also cast crank baits into weed pockets for fish that hold up there. If you want to work deep, go to walker bay and work the 40 foot depth off of the humps with a jig and minnow. REW |

If it were me, I would get a guide for half a day. He will put you on the fish, and show you what is working at that time. Then, the rest of the time there you should have a good time.

Try Women Labor weekend it has always been my to go lake. A good one typically. No reports on Leech to speak of a little early for fall. Water temps staying warm

if the wind is blowing, which it usually is up there, hit the wind swept shore lines. In years past we have done well off of hardwoods, pine and cedar points. Try around goose island also.
Will be heading up there on the 24th of this month for 5 days. We have done will in 7-10 foot of water at that time of the year pulling small crayfish colored cranks.
