Default 2005 Skeeter 1790t Yamaha 75

Sorry I kind of hijacked a thread earlier so I will start a new one. I was just wondering what motor hole position you guys are running on this rig. I am currently in the second hole[motor up one hole from the bottom] with no blow out issues just porpoising at certain speeds[mid range] Just wondering if anybody has tried the third hole up? Did not want to waste my time doing it if somebody tried it and did not work. Will this help hole shot? Porpoising? Love the boat just seems to be stern heavy specially when I put my buddy's in there. Moved everything I could to the front as much as possible.

I have the same rig, only it is an '04 model. I raised my motor up two holes. It came rigged sitting down tight to the transom. The biggest improvement I saw from raising it up was in the steering torque. It reduced that to a more tollerable level. I don't have issues with blow out unless I way over trim or make an extremely sharp turn. Porpoising is not an issue either. I will say that when the livewell is full and the gas tank is full (33 gal.) and I have another big person in the boat with me it is not a speed demon getting out of the hole. You need to realize also that the same hull can have a 150hp. motor on it if you have a steering wheel. I don't think you will ever achieve that type of performance with the 75. I don't have a hydofoil on mine but several of my friends have them on their Ranger tillers and like them alot. It may be something to consider if you aren't satisfied with your performance but I haven't seen the need. I will say the boat rides quite smooth in choppy water and fishes nice. The 75 trolls down well, especially if you have even a light wind to work against. If you have any other questions you can ask on her or PM me. I'd be happy to give you my opinions. Rob

Thanks Rob for the reply. When you say up two holes are your bolts in the second hole or third set of holes. Tight to the transom would be the first hole right? I currently have alot of steering torque until I get it trimmed up. In calm weather thats fine but when it gets rough out and you want the bow down the steering torque pulls hard. I have adjusted the trim tab but with little with no improvement.

The bolts are in the third hole from the top... meanining I could raise the motor up one more hole. I hope that makes sense to you. I just want to make sure you and I are talking the same language. I have not tried it with the motor up as far as it will go but I have a tendency to think you may start to have issues if you do. I went out and measured my trim tab setting and I will try to explain as well as I can where it is set. Take a tape measure and hook it on the left (port) side of the cavitation plate and measure over to the right (starboard) edge of the trim tab. Mine measures 4 1/16". Like I said earlier I don't have an issue with the steering torque but I will also say that I run my steering friction fairly tight while running at high speed. If you aren't already maybe you could give that a try also. It helps quite a bit. I also added another seat base directly in the center of the boat right between the two factory installed bases so that my passenger sits in the center of the boat rather on one side or the other. I feel it balances the weight out better and helped reduce some of the steering torque. Something else for you to think about. Hopefully this will help get your issues straightened out. Rob

Thanks Rob. Makes perfect sense where you have the motor height at. I will try mine up one more and see what happens. That is a great idea putting in the another base in the middle to balance the weight better with another person. Does the gas tank get in the way of the base? Thanks again you have been very helpfull!!

I didn't have any problems with the base contacting the gas tank. I used a base identical to the factory installed ones. It gives your passenger more room to turn their seat and still have leg room. Good luck, Rob
