I got a motorguide 8M4000137 model and it was good just before yesterday but I had issue with it yesterday in the middle of the day(I mean it was good but failed me in afternoon). The model is wireless model and I have a foot-pedal but now only power related ok (on/off, speed), the steering (left, right) is not working. Every time I pushed the steering left/right I can still hear the sound from the trolling motor but it did not steering at all. I had to use my hands to push the top housing to steering the trolling motor to finish the day. Can someone tell me what is wrong and how to do more check by myself? Thanks.

Seahawk,
Pull the top and check the gears. It sounds like you have stripped out the motor steering gear. If you have one of the earlier models, the steering gear was replaced with an updated gear to take care of the issue. REW |

Are you suggesting that I take the screws off from top housing and open the cover? How much does this fix cost roughly? Thanks.

Several dollars for the gear several years ago when I replaced mine. Nickel or quarter size. I bought 2.
