Default What size Braided line on Curado reel?

Looking for opinions... I just purchased a Curado reel on sale at Cabelas' - it is the CU200E7. I have been looking at Curados for some time and the sale price helped memake the decision. I am looking forward to some musky fishing next week and covering alot of water with this reel but am unsure as to what size braided line to use. I would like to go as light as possible but I will still be using a leader. Anyone use this reel with braided line? What do you like best? I'd also be curious as to what size rod you find works best with the reel. Thanks in advance!

I use 50lb powerpro, you will like the round diameter braids better than fireline on a baitcaster.

You can still use a backer on the spool as you will only use 100yds of braid.

For a rod, get a long one. 7+ and close to 8 is what I like to use. Medium Heavy would be the lightest I would go and Heavy probably is your best bet.
I use a St Croix LTS7'8" MH XF rod that telescopes. I also use this for flipping and pitching for bass.

Thanks... I appreciate the info. In the past I typically have used 7-foot "heavy" rods with a couple of Calcuttas and 65# Powerpro but the Curado seemed a little light for that size rod and the heavier test. So I wasn't sure. I will give the 50# a try.

Rod should be fine, the 50lb I have is just an overall good line. I haven't had any issues with it, the drag on the 200 is excellent so could probably use less in my opinion.

I like the curados because they are easy to palm and seems to cut down on fatigue for me.

Default Curado Line

I have used 50lb Spiderwire for years without any real problems.
I only use this combo for bucktails and plastics.

Well, I spooled some 50# Power pro on the reel and on the fourth or fifth case the reel broke. First time I ever had that happen with a Shimano reel. Really disappointing. Bail broke and I had ro reel in about forty yards. Of line by hand. Oh well... have to send back to Cabela's.

i just started using 9 foot rods i love them realy nice for throwing the 1# bull dogs. as for line i use 65 or 80. i have 9 musky rods each one is for a certin bait that way i can just grab a rod with out taking a bait on and off all day long. biger baits i use the heveyer line not so much for the bait but for when i get a back lash i have lost baits because of a back lash line stops bait keeps on flying . so thats when i started going with the hever line
