Default Mercury new 150 4 stroke

Mercury finally removes the veil of secrecy from this new motor.

Says it weighs in just 24lbs more than the 150 Optimax (431#), which makes that 455.

Maybe Merc has something here. Hope so, competition breeds innovation and the consumer wins.

Default Why?

It is hard for me to get excited about any brand 150 4 stroke. First question I would ask? What was wrong with the 150 Verado? When it debuted weren't we told this motor was at the pinnacle of innovation and design? Now this?

My personal opinion is this. The Verado is overpriced and over sophisticated. I would bet this 150 4-stroke is to directly compete with the Yammi F150. I'll bet Merc is trying capture the entire 150 market.

regarding the decals and design. I think this is an ugly outboard.

Does anyone have any idea what price this motor will hit the market at?

The re-powering market is one aspect that Merc is targeting with this new motor. The new 150 fits for the person who wants a 4 stroke to hang on that older boat and weight is the major factor, at 510# for Vrod and even 476# for the Yamaha, the 455# Merc looks pretty good (excluding the decals of course Wade).

Price is a good question. If Merc has done a good job with its costs of production they can offer it at a profitable number and have a big sales winner. Would $10,700 be out of line? (guessing, based on pricing online of Yamaha F150 and Vrod150) Of course it depends too if you are getting a price quote from a high volume dealer that passes volume discounts on to the customers.

Exactly my thoughts. It would look good hanging on the back of my old ugly boat.

Thats pretty attractive. I looked at repowering with a suzkui and a F150 and the dealer I was talking to had my out of pocket costs a bit over 10 (after the trade in).
