The Phelps floaters I am referring to are completely different from the Northland product referenced above.

The hook used is not straight, but has a bent down eye, roughly 145 degrees from a normal jig hook. It rides with the point up and the eye extending forward and down. The foam body is teardrop shaped, except the bottom is rounded with painted on eyes, and the top of the body is flat. Pulling it through the water creates an upward vector, resulting in the bait to float higher than its tie point to the bb.

I purchased 4-5 dozen in different sizes and colors some years ago; I think they may not be made anymore. Too bad, it is a great producer.

Default Phelps floater may still be available

The Phelps Floater you are refering to is still available at some of the bait and tackle shops in the Bemidji area. Give Taber's Bait or Bluewater Outdoors a call. I think they can help you out. I don't know to what degree they are being manufactured any more since Denny Phelps passed away but I know his son Matt is still servicing the local shops around here. You are correct in that they are a good product. Good Luck. Rob P.S. I found a cell number for Matt if you would like to contact him personally. Hopefully it is still current. 218-766-3818

When you go to that link, which floating jig heads are the "Phelps" ones?

The ones that look just like the "Gum Drop" floaters (which I'm a HUGE fan of already) or are they the "hump back floaters"?
